Ripple USD (RLUSD) is a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin designed to maintain a stable value of one U.S. dollar. It is issued by regulated Ripple subsidiaries and backed one-to-one by reserves comprising cash deposits, short-term U.S. Treasuries and other cash equivalents.
RLUSD is designed for payments, remittances, treasury flows, trading and onchain financial applications. It is available across multiple blockchain networks, including the XRP Ledger and Ethereum.
RLUSD combines regulatory oversight, transparent reserve backing and multichain availability. Its reserves are held in segregated accounts and supported by monthly attestations from an independent accounting firm.
Unlike cryptocurrencies whose prices are determined entirely by open-market demand, RLUSD is designed to maintain a stable value linked to the U.S. dollar. This makes it suitable for transactions and financial applications that require greater price stability.
RLUSD is designed to maintain a value of one U.S. dollar through one-to-one reserve backing and redemption mechanisms. Its market price may occasionally move slightly above or below US$1 due to supply and demand, liquidity and trading conditions across exchanges.
When priced in Australian dollars, RLUSD’s value will also reflect movements in the AUD/USD exchange rate.
RLUSD was created by Ripple and launched in December 2024. It is issued and distributed by Standard Custody & Trust Company and other regulated Ripple subsidiaries.
Ripple developed RLUSD to provide a regulated and transparent stablecoin for payments, remittances, trading, treasury operations and other institutional blockchain applications.
RLUSD does not have a fixed maximum supply. New tokens are issued when corresponding reserve assets are received, while redeemed tokens are removed from circulation. Its circulating supply therefore changes according to market demand and redemption activity.
