Thirteen years ago, BTC Markets launched with a clear mission: give Australians secure access to digital assets. That mission hasn't changed. The industry around it has and so have the possibilities for the investors and institutions operating within it.
When we started in 2013, there was no regulatory framework, no institutional participation, and no roadmap for how digital assets would sit within the Australian financial system. We built anyway. Because the underlying thesis was sound. And because Australians deserved a regulated, trustworthy place to participate in this market.
What that means today is concrete. Over 400,000 clients have trusted BTC Markets with more than $35 billion in trading volume. They range from first-time investors to SMSFs to institutional desks. What they share is a need for infrastructure that is reliable, compliant, and built for the long term. That's what we've spent thirteen years building.
We don't lend client assets. We don't run a proprietary trading desk. Client funds are held separately and always have been. For retail investors, that means protection. For institutions, it means a counterparty they can bring to a compliance committee without hesitation.
The regulatory environment has caught up. The Corporations Amendment (Digital Assets Framework) Bill 2025 is now law. For the first time, digital asset platforms operate within a dedicated legislative framework, with clear expectations around licensing, consumer protection, and platform standards. That clarity matters. It gives institutions the line of sight they need to participate at scale, and it gives retail investors greater confidence in where they choose to trade.
BTC Markets is ready for what comes next. We have notified ASIC of our intention to apply for an Australian Market Licence. These aren't reactive steps. They're the continuation of a deliberate build.
Project Acacia has pointed clearly toward a tokenised financial system. Institutional capital is moving. The infrastructure question is no longer whether, it's who is positioned to provide it. For investors and institutions looking for a regulated, experienced local operator to grow with, the answer shouldn't be hard to find.
Thirteen years of considered decision-making through market cycles and regulatory uncertainty. The principles that shaped this exchange have held. The foundation is solid.
The next chapter starts now, and it's one worth being part of.
