BTC Markets announces new leadership appointments

Lucas Dobbins appointed Chief Executive Officer & Executive Director, Paul Stonham joins as Chief Commercial Officer

BTC Markets is proud to announce two senior leadership appointments that mark a pivotal moment in the company’s growth. Lucas Dobbins has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, and Paul Stonham has joined BTC Markets as Chief Commercial Officer. Former CEO, Caroline Bowler will remain as a Non-Executive Director.

These appointments underscore BTC Markets’ focus on strong governance, leadership continuity, and building a scalable, trusted digital asset exchange for retail and institutional clients.

Lucas Dobbins promoted to Chief Executive Officer & Executive Director

Lucas Dobbins will move into the role of Chief Executive Officer, recognising his strategic vision, deep technical expertise, and longstanding contribution to the company.

Lucas brings more than 18 years of experience building secure, high-performance systems across broadcast media, finance, and digital assets. He first began exploring Bitcoin in the early 2010s, building mining rigs and experimenting with decentralised systems well before digital assets entered the mainstream.

Prior to joining BTC Markets, Lucas co-founded a software consultancy and developed real time graphics and gaming technology for major Australian media organisations including ABC and Network 10, where reliability, scale, and security were critical.

Lucas joined BTC Markets in 2018 as a Frontend Engineer and rapidly progressed to Chief Technology Officer. In that role, he led a comprehensive transformation of the platform’s technology stack and played a key role in strengthening BTC Markets’ position as Australia’s longest running digital asset exchange.

His leadership philosophy centres on listening first, setting clear direction, and empowering teams to operate with autonomy within well-defined frameworks. As CEO, Lucas will lead BTC Markets’ growth strategy across institutional partnerships and product innovation, positioning the exchange at the intersection of blockchain innovation and traditional financial markets, where digital assets trade 24/7 with the protections investors expect.

Paul Stonham appointed Chief Commercial Officer

Joining Lucas in the executive leadership team is Paul Stonham, who has been appointed Chief Commercial Officer, bringing extensive experience across financial services, technology, and market infrastructure.

Paul has a strong track record in commercial strategy, product development, and building high performance growth initiatives, gained through senior leadership roles at ASX and other global financial institutions.

In his role as CCO, Paul will lead BTC Markets’ commercial function, with responsibility for driving acquisition and retention across institutional and retail clients. He will also focus on strengthening partnerships with key industry and technology stakeholders, enhancing pricing models and margin governance, and building scalable commercial frameworks to support the company’s next phase of expansion.
