CEO’s Corner: A fond farewell

I joined BTC Markets almost six years ago. The digital asset industry in Australia was still in its infancy. BTC Markets, however, was already standing tall, an Australian-built platform with the kind of heart and resilience you don’t find in financial services.

Now, as we prepare to celebrate our 12th anniversary on June 1st, the time feels right for the next chapter to unfold. I’ve made the decision to step down, with my final day set for 8 August 2025. Should a new CEO not yet be appointed by then, I will remain on as acting CEO to ensure a seamless transition.

This decision comes from a position of strength, both personally and for BTC Markets. We’ve successfully navigated the rollercoaster of the 2020 bull market; the COVID-era changes; and challenges of the prolonged bear market. The business has emerged with strengthened revenues and a reinforced balance sheet. Our focus on operational discipline and product innovation has not wavered. In 2025, we’ve followed up with strategic hires across key roles and will continue that momentum into FY26.

This month we’ve soft-launched a new trading platform, developed to enhance performance, user experience and functionality. One of several milestones on our product roadmap, aligned with the long-term strategic direction of the business.

Globally, regulatory progress is gaining pace. We view this shift as a positive step to shape a more mature and sustainable crypto environment in Australia. BTC Markets is well-positioned to meet these changes with credibility and confidence.

From a personal perspective, leading BTC Markets is the best job in the business. I’ve had the extraordinary privilege of working with a team that punches above its weight, delivers consistently, and does so with a mix of humour, smarts and compassion. They are the engine room and the secret sauce behind our success. I am so humbled and proud to be a part of this team. I couldn’t be more grateful for their unwavering support, when at times it felt like us against the world.

To our clients, thank you. Your support has carried us through market highs and bear cycles, and your trust in a homegrown Australian exchange has meant the world. We’ve always believed that Australians deserve a crypto platform designed for them, with transparency and security at its core. Please know that our team works every day with you in mind.

If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. I’m grateful to the people within businesses and organisations who ‘took the risk’ and partnered with a crypto company before it was cool! They span industries but have become close friends of the business, spanning advisory, legal, PR, and payments.

To the broader industry, thank you for the challenges, the collaboration, and the shared vision of a more open, efficient financial system. Crypto isn’t easy. But it’s worth it.

For now, it’s time to take a breath, recharge, and reacquaint myself with my garden.
